Bones 5.13 The Dentist in the Ditch

Well - somebody has to start it. This has already been discussed in a bit of detail in the chatbox, but goodness we have some reluctant posters in there. Serious point folks - don't neglect the inner forums while you're having a great time in the porch!
OK, boring mod hat off cos I had an excellent time in there yesterday with the usual great company - and let's get on with my thoughts.
The Dentist In The Ditch was a reasonable ep but I didn't think it had much in the way of distinguishing features or advancement. Characterwise we had Booth and Brennan moving infinitesimally closer, with Brennan admitting that such a thing as love may exist (in a slightly syrupy final scene) and Booth acknowledging that it was not logical to encourage Brennan to forgive her father murder and yet not be prepared to forgive his brother's girlfriend a period of high-class escort work 4 years ago. The catalyst to all this was the prodigal Jared's triumphant return from his trek in India with the astonishing news that he is ready to settle down! I'll be interested to see if Padme makes it to regular because I think she would bounce quite nicely off the other female leads. However, I admit that personally, having fed a Star Wars obsession in my younger son over a period of several years, I find her name difficult to take seriously. It gives me these mental pictures of Natalie Portman with truly ludicrous coiffures and worse, Jar Jar Binks shaking his huge ears, the asthmatic Darth Vader and a few plucky little Ewoks bristling furrily in the background.
Back in the lab it was all go with some lovely comic relief. Vincent solves the knotty problem of removing clay deposits on the bones by plunging them into a rhubarb bath, Hodgins has a moment of pleasure working out why there were cracks in the skull before rather ruefully admitting that it advanced the cause of death search not one whit; and Cam cringes and scratches hilariously as the remains turn out to be infested with tiny red spiders which spill gratifyingly all over the place and give Hodgins a chance to wax lyrical on one of his favourite hobbies.
It did appear odd that after some time back and forth to the lab and several significant successes Vincent is suddenly rolling over on his back and begging like a large-eyed puppy for Brennan's praise and approval. I know all the interns worship her but this did seem OOC obsequious.
The case itself was fairly straightforward; I understood it!! I did say in the chatbox that the reasons for murder seem to be becoming ever more banal and therefore less believable. On this occasion I can understand a moment of real fury prompting an attack (though, again, I don't feel that an argument over a theft of building equipment would have raised quite those hackles), but not the cold-blooded cruelty that allowed a person to bleed out on the paving stones without a 911 call. I don’t know why the neighbours didn’t notice either!
So those are my thoughts. I might have more if I get to watch it again, but once more this was a frustrating viewer experience with much distracting buffering. Serve me right for being endlessly impatient and watching eps on the Internet. Incidentally it has been very hard to write all this today also, because the box that I am writing in keeps leaping up to the top of the text so I can’t see what I’m typing. An occasional pain in these postings; if it happens to you people a lot, let me know and I’ll ask our admin if he can fix it.
If I can be this persistent I think I am now entitled to ask: What did you all think?
