I agree with Sharon, stick with our characters. But if they do want to have guest stars/crossovers, please do it with QUALITY shows like oh I don't know, Lie to Me, House...(insert you're favorite non-reality show here)... :)

I hate crossovers so I keep hoping talk of that doesn't come up again. I wouldn't even like it if they did one with House and I watch House. Though Booth OR Brennan dealing with House is kind of an interesting thought. ;) Pretty sure Hart Hanson said last year that a HOUSE crossover isn't possible anyway, because even though they are both shown on FOX, HOUSE is done by a different production company, not 20th Century FOX like Bones.

Soz, very :text-offtopic: so we need to get back to actual spoilers in a minute - but in spite of my normal caution about crossover I'd still really like to see a Lie To Me one...

*sigh*

This show never needed gimmicks before. But in these last couple of years, it's like they're becoming all about the 'special guest stars' and big advertising ploys. I confess I'm getting weary of it. To force a story around someone from one of FOX's other programs (or some musician or reality TV 'star')... to me, it messes with the integrity of the program that I love. This show used to be wonderfully balanced in its approach, concentrating on story and character development and all the genuine connections as they worked together to solve cases and catch killers and bring justice to the victims.

Remember Maggie?

"These facts can't be ignored or dismissed because you think I'm... boring or obnoxious, because I don't matter. What I feel doesn't matter. Only she matters. Only Maggie." ("The Girl in the Fridge," 1x08)

What happened to that approach?

If this is what they have to do to keep network happy, then personally I'd rather see this show go out on its own terms within a shorter series length and their original integrity returned than see it cave in and resort to cheap ratings ploys. I don't want marketing over substance. I want great story and meaningful attention to the characters we love.

If it makes you feel better, tweet from Hart:

Do people honestly, actually, really, literally think we are doing a cross-over with SYTYCD? I mean, really? Honestly? Want to buy a swamp?

Not to belabor the point too much, but I don't really love the way he worded that. I assume he's probably frustrated with people questioning his choices for the show, and that is his right, but I think some complaints are legitimate. (And it shouldn't be shocking to him that people are wondering, given how many 'super special guests of the week' they've had over the last year or two -- Cyndi Lauper, that guy from American Idol, the Dog Whisperer, the episode that was one big Avatar commercial, etc. It's not like this is the first time. That's part of the problem.)

He may not be planning some sort of out-and-out crossover with So You Think You Can Dance, but if he has to force a storyline to be about dancers so that they can have some big dance scene for the character played by whoever they're getting from SYTYCD (when a dance scene is not something that would normally occur or fit on Bones), then he's not exactly being authentic to his program, you know what I mean? It becomes all about 'what wacky thing is happening on Bones this week?' instead of 'what amazing, meaningful story is occurring on the show for these wonderful, smart characters we've loved since the pilot episode?' It has the feel of a big marketing ploy. And that's not something everyone loves, myself included.

Sorry, Ang... I don't mean to be a pain in the ass about this. I just find his response a bit frustrating.

I do think that HH's frustration comes from the fact they they cannot logically have a crossover episode with SYTYCD, and he is getting comments about having a crossover with a reality show. He deals with a lot of people giving their opinions all the time (and he does so willingly I know) and he is usually pretty good about it. Every once in a while he says something like this, and I just chalk it up to an overload of twitter. LOL

That said, I am not defending the decisions to have these sorts of characters and story lines, because I agree with you on that Sherry. I don't think having these "special guest stars" make the show better, they are just catering to the need by FOX to have endless self-promotion (something NBC used to do constantly as well). Maybe he has no choice. I don't know.

Gonna say though, the Avatar episode, yes it was sort of an hour long commercial BUT, it had some things in it that I just loved as far as Hodgins (and I'm not talking about the tattoo scene, though that was nice too ;)) that I still like that episode.

Sherry, I think you should write Hart Hanson a letter. Buy a huge box to put it in so you can mail it, and hope you can afford the postage. :P  :D But he says he reads his mail, and he likes constructive criticism, and I do think you are constructive about it.
