Jade, I use to do that! Wear a T-shirt over my bathing suit, but this one I have now it just isn't necessary, I guess because it doesn't look like underwear to me. But nothing wrong with doing that if you feel more comfortable that way!

*waves to all*

Am I seeing that correctly? I've 'upgraded' from a 'Bug Guy' to a 'TJ Junkie'? Heeeee. Nice!

I love these wacky identifiers. (And am very happy that I'm no longer in any way related to bugs. LOL.)

In our discussion o' swimsuits... ;)

skftex wrote:I'm not big on flower patterns much either, and I know bathing suits do tend to love them. Your suit actually sounds very nice, something like I'd get! And if it accented the things you wanted accented and minimized other things, it sounds perfect!
*Flower patterns. Sometimes they can be so cute and pretty and delicate. Other times... ugh. You feel like a couch cushion or a piece of ugly wallpaper. Definitely can make me feel old and frumpy.

Instead of flowers, the suit I got had more of a repetitive medallion design or something. Small flowery circles but pretty. I know, it probably sounds ridiculous, but it's better than it seemed on the hanger. Alas, I was trying to find a picture of it online, from the store at which I bought it, but couldn't find it.

At any rate, yes, it definitely drew the eye to places I prefer, rather than the places I don't. Something kind of funny: I visited my sister and her family this past weekend -- we went to Milwaukee's music festival Summerfest and had a marvelous time  -- and I was describing the suit to her and she thought the exact opposite of me! She didn't think she'd want that suit if she tried it on. She'd very much prefer not to accentuate the bust area; I, on the other hand, don't mind it if it's tastefully done. In fact, I kind of like it. *wicked grin* As we've both grown up, we as sisters find that we tend to gravitate towards similar tastes in certain things, but for some reason not clothes. She's more conservative than I am. Which I suppose makes me sound like some sort of brazen hussy, but I'm really not.

Your suit sounds really cute, Sharon (yay, aqua, pretty!), as does yours, Jade. And I like the idea of the board shorts and T-shirt -- hey, if we have to travel to our swimming location, it's nice to have an outfit to wear over our suits! Nothing wrong with that! :D

Has it cooled down any where you are? We went from temps near 100 to temps in the 70's. It was an odd drop. It's nice that the humidity isn't melting my brain, but I still want the sun to be out and to have a nice breeze.

Gotta run! I'm going to dinner with my aunts, and they're ready to go now. Be back soon for more chatting!

Temps are over 100 here today. Not good. Expecially since I had to do a lot of walking outside today. My car was having electrical problems, so I had to drop it off & then walk back home (about a 25-30 min walk). Then, had to walk back to pick it up when it was done. It ended up costing over $600 to get it fixed. That is not a happy thing for someone who is currently unemployed. Ok, enough griping. At least I got some healthy exercise. :P

Oh, Jade... I understand what you're going through. I (along with an entire building full of friends and colleagues) got laid off from my job over a year ago, and I've been out of work ever since. It is so frustrating and disheartening and defeating and draining to be out of work for this long. I never thought it would take this long to find anything. But I have to keep reminding myself that it's not me, it's the economy, and the businesses trying to save money rather than hiring new people. Doesn't make it any less painful, though.

And I understand about the car thing. Mine was making a disturbing rattling noise, and for a while I waited to get it fixed because I was afraid it would be expensive... and like you say, being out of work makes big bills like car repairs really difficult. I put it off for quite a while, until this week, actually. I went to Milwaukee last weekend to visit my sister and go to Summerfest, and on the way back to Illinois, I noticed the sound was a lot worse, scarily so. I was a little afraid I wasn't going to get home safely. But I did, thankfully, and the next day I took my car in to a local shop and they found the problem. Ironically, it was something for which they only charged me $20! Can you believe that? I don't know anyone else like this car repair shop -- I've always felt like I can trust them not to jerk me around or overcharge me. They're really cool people.

At any rate, I just wanted to let you know that I understand what you're going through, and I hope with all my heart that you find a job (that we both find jobs!), one that is interesting and rewarding and positive and secure and worthy of your (our!) talents. :D

Hang in there. *hugs*

Thank you for the support! I really appreciate it. It's been over a year for me, as well. It's a bit frightening not to have anything on the horizon. So, I just want to return your good wishes & second your hope that we both find rewarding & gainful employment! :) Also, you're so lucky to have a good car shop that you know & trust. I'm glad that problem turned out to be something easily fixed.

I can hear you all saying, "well who on earth is that who has just flopped down on the sofa so inelegantly and dripping sweat?" Yes, at last, two minutes when I am not buried in about 200 end-of-year reports or making guilt calls to the people I've neglected or having to appear at school functions. I seriously am surprised that anyone recognises me, and I would like to thank the stalwarts who have kept the boards (and the chatbox - pleasure to read, even when I can't contribute) up to date in my enforced absence; Sharon, Jade, Sherry, Sarah et al.

The raw perspiration, excuse me while I prepare myself a very long iced drink, is not solely due to expended energy. I hear you and sympathise about the weather. We in the UK have recently had those temperatures in the 100s, or nearly. Thunderstorms have helped break it a bit, but the humidity has been unbearable. I like dry heat, but this is just draining. Even the flies are not bothering us, they just sit on the floor and doze. It's like trying to breathe water. I think my classroom is illegal in the mornings - a child actually fell asleep over his desk on Wednesday. The very worst thing about it is that I mostly sweat from my head. Resultantly, the very nice semi-permanent colour I got at the hairdresser's two weeks ago is literally running off me. Orange drops on all my summer tops. I really do not think it should be quite THAT semi, so I may be having a word at the salon soon.

Cars. We have a new one. Well, new to us - about 10 years old and in very good nick. A lovely silver Renault Scenic, comfort (and air conditioning) that could not be matched by our previous transport, which owed us absolutely nothing and had clocked up about 185,000 miles. We've had it a week or two, and already I am used to the extra legroom. Bliss. Hubby deals with a garage he completely trusts down near his workplace. As you say, this is a real luxury; the dealer is now a good friend and helps us a lot in our choices (and MOTs, and repairs!!).

And what of the family in general? Well, son no. 1, home from uni for some time now, has heard that he has passed his second year in reasonable, if unspectacular fashion) and is attempting to find a part-time job to tide him over the holidays until he goes to teach English in Poitiers as part of his degree course. No luck. Jobs are hard to come by in this economic climate - I don't need to tell anyone here that , and I am keeping my fingers constantly crossed for you, Jade and Sherry - and everyone seems to be insisting on a BA to stack shelves. But he is enjoying being home with some time to spend with his brother, who is now finished with senior school and awaiting the results of his GCSEs prior to going off to do a sports course at Southport FC which also includes playing for the junior team. Couldn't be better for my football-mad sprog. My other half meantime is heavily involved with a small grass roots choir which he has taken on on a part-time basis and is revelling in the pleasures of being a musical director, musical arranger and show producer. He does far too much. Last concert is tonight. I saw the first of the run, which was very good, but this one, which I am also going to support, should be really polished. Songs from the shows on the theme of the 7 deadly sins (so ‘Clambake’ from Carousel would be Gluttony, see?).

I am spending a lot of time going out to theatre performances one way or another. School just put on an absolutely superb version of 'Adrian Mole' which was of an amazing standard for a group of 11-14-year-olds, some of whom had to play women! . Next week, as school ends, I am going to Liverpool to see a hilarious English version of Moliere's 'Malade Imaginaire'. Really looking forward to that.

Right, must go eat lunch now and copy this before I post, as I suspect I have been logged out by now. Is it just our PC or is this typing box unbelievably slow at the moment?

PS I’ve actually had to copy this to Word and take it bit by bit as I couldn’t select the whole thing!!

Hey Steph/Everyone

I'm with you Steph about the heat its just really not funny anymore, I so don't do very hot weather well especially not when its accompanied by 86% humidity I mean what's that all about!

Not much going on with me at the moment, going to the local pub tonight with Alex but that's normal so nothing exciting and he'll probably only be moaning about the heat, he's worse than me.

I might have an audition for a new quiz show on Channel 5 so that will be cool if it comes off, they rang me in the week, asked me a few questions, chatted for a bit and then said could I go to Manchester on the 18th, they said they were going to email me the confirmation in a couple of days or so, haven't had anything yet so we'll have to wait and see. 'Totally Saturday' phoned as well (that's a really bad Saturday night show for those who don't know but its one of those so bad it would be fun to be on) I'm kinda hoping they don't get back to me though 'cos Alex isn't keen on being involved and its possible they'd want him to be. Anway we'll see what happens.

In the meantime looking forward to the Pretenders in a couple of weeks and saving for a big night out in September with work. We're going to the Panoramic, a restaurant in Liverpool that's 34 floors up (its Britain's highest). One of the team at least will probably want to go drinking cocktails in the Newz bar after as well which will be expensive (its trendy and where all the WAGs go, as in footballers Wives and Girlfriends) not really my thing but I'm always up for cocktails. I'm staying off the wine this time 'cos I still can't remember getting home from the last work's night out when we decided to drink wine as the cheaper option!

Anyway I think that's all from me for now, its good to hear your sons are both doing well Steph, if the older one is still looking for temp jobs, the DWP might be worth a try I know they do sometimes employ students over the Summer doing admin work.

Catch you later

*hands Steph and Jude ice-cold beverages and chilled towels to soothe your over-heated selves*

Curse you, Humidity! ;)

We suffered the humidity for a while, but then this week the temps dropped drastically to the 70's, overcast all week. We've had bursts of sunshine, but nothing steady. I'm not sure what's in store for us next week; I confess I haven't watched the weather on the news lately.

Steph, it sounds like you are absolutely swamped! I hope the workload eases and those poor, wilting children (literally) cool off and perk up soon. *wry smile*

By the way, Steph, since I missed you in the chat box... what other songs did your husband pick out for the Seven Deadly Sins theme for his concert tonight? I send enthusiastic 'break a leg' exclamations to him and the rest of his choir!

Jude, good luck on that quiz show audition! Let us know what happens, won't you? :D

Ah yes, well there were actually several numbers for each, some even covered 2 or 3 sins, and my man had it compèred very appropriately by a rather suave Old Nick, one of the older choir members. Sloth was represented by 'With a Little Bit of Luck' from My Fair Lady - Alfred Doolitle extolling the virtues of idleness. Anger included 'Just You Wait, 'enry 'iggins' from the same show, and the alarming 'Pirate Jenny' from Weill's Threepenny Opera. There's fairly overweening Pride in 'Stars' from Les Mis, and we went for Miss Hannigan's tirade in 'Annie' for Envy - of anyone not surrounded by 'Little Girls'. We also had the popular song 'Jealousy', although jealousy is NOT the same thing as envy... but we let it pass. Lust, well, take your pick. It spanned many genres, from the comic 'Have Some Madeira, M'Dear' (how to get a 17-year-old drunk and take advantage of her) to 'Music of The Night' from 'Phantom', which is an extremely sexy song complicated with all sorts of other desires, by way of Gilbert & Sullivan's fairy queen from 'Iolanthe', lusting over an unattainable mortal. Avarice was superbly represented, again from Les Mis, this time by the magnificent comic 'Master Of The House', sung by the sleazy landlord Thénardier who wrings every penny he can out of his customers. There were a few general sinners, too - the lads in 'West Side Story' singing 'Officer Krupke' and the genuinely terrifying Bill Sykes 'My Name' from Oliver. The whole affair was a massive success, both for the choir and the audience. Such a pity this is something I just have not had time to get involved in! Being a teacher, and one of drama at that, my husband is very experienced at encouraging people to get out of their comfort zones and do what they never thought they could. Which of course is the lure of music - of the night or otherwise!

Aha, I'm done moving! Sort of, I guess, I still need to sort the stuff I brought with me and get it put away.

And my family decided my grandparents need highspeed internet, so I'm not cut off from the world now as I had originally expected. Although often distracted talking to family or helping around the house. Soon I'll be teaching my grandmother how to use email, and finding her a new tv cause the old one is blinking.

It's pretty hot down here too (Corpus Christi, Tx) 105F (40.6 C) heat index with 86%+ humidity is not fun! I'm glad to hear some of you at least are getting some some rain to cool you down.

And I got an A in my watercolor class. I don't think I would have managed it without having read some of the things TJ has said about acting. I would have probably only managed a C or even worse if it hadn't clicked for me, how to open up, loosen up, and just paint, and that has expanded and helped my art in every other area from drawing, to digital work. I hope he knows how thankful I am, because for a while, I was thinking of quitting art despite how deeply ingrained it is into me, I ended up not giving up, with a bit of indirect advice. :D

Hi all

Just a quick note to say that the audition is definitely on, on the 18th, its one hour being filmed but I'm not sure exactly what it entails yet. I'm really looking forward to it, I'm not expecting to get through but fingers crossed anyway.

Catch you later

So..Manchester on the 18th? It sounds really fun. Personally not my thing, I have an inbuilt sense of failure, but husband has used his extensive general knowledge to wind up overall runner-up in a musical quiz show on Radio 4. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Lore, I never thought you'd be able to get back this early, and with such good news. How fantastic that TJ has actually helped you with what you want to achieve. I think he is an inspiration to many of us. You go girl!

I have just got up at midday. Holiday time started at last. Pure relief. I didn't even stay long at the post-finish meal; just wanted to get out of there. And anyway, the leaving speech of one of my much-loved and talented colleagues really moved me and I didn't feel like socialising. Finally, finally, my time is my own. Of course there is still loads to do. I have to put together a languages workscheme for our primary school department and write up the copy for next year's induction booklet for a start, go in to work for a few days to do my regular clearout and tidy up and (if I'm unlucky enough for the date to be set during the vacation) go to a meeting with the psychologist who is treating one of my next year's pupils. Piece of ...cake. Not.

Other half and I are going away to Lincoln as a couple on the weekend of our 23rd anniversary. The boys are old enough to cope with a few days on their own! We haven't been there for many years and are hoping to see some good friends while we are in their vicinity. I doubt that we'll get a holiday away as a family. For a start, son no.1 (who has just received notice of his school placements near Poitiers) is still job seeking, and son no.2 starts pre-season training with Southport FC at the beginning of August. I am considering using our holiday money stash to get the kitchen revamped. Which would feel like a vacation anyway, certainly for hubby, who spends large chunks of his time there.

More news as it comes. I'm not expecting the next week or so to sparkle!

Oh, Steph... you've been working so hard. I wish things would lighten up for you a little bit so that you could savor your summer more. :? I'm thinking about you, and sending plenty of supportive hugs!

Did your colleague retire or move on to a different job opportunity?

Lore, I think it's wonderful, how well you did in that class! Congratulations! I'm glad that TJ inspired you (he does seem to do that, doesn't he?) and that your artistic talents shone through. Isn't it amazing how we can lock ourselves up, afraid to let go and really explore and try things and be bold with our talents, and then suddenly something clicks and loosens up and we fly free? Such a cool feeling, when you can tap into that kind of inspiration and artistic freedom. Definitely not always an easy thing to find, but when it's there and it's happening, boy, is it fantastic. :D Thank you for inspiring us all by reminding us to go for it and explore creatively.

Jude -- my fingers are crossed for you!! :handgestures-fingerscrossed:

Belated reply to Steph -- sounds like that was quite a concert! Your husband made some terrific music choices! I wish I could have been there to attend. :D

Hi guys!

Sorry I was away for so long! This time I wasn't in London - but wish I was! :? Lots of unfinished things were on my desk when I came back to work. :x So I had to work long hours. And now my colleague is on vacation so lots of things to do. When I'm home I didn't feel like sitting in front of my computer again. I hope I didn't miss so much here! But I've already seen that I missed TJ again. :( Well, maybe next time!

So, speaking of London - I still owe you a report! Hope it's not gonna be so long so that you all have fun to read it! If you don't want to read it all here is the short version: Convention, Theatre, Shopping!

And now the long version:

I arrived on Friday and went straight to the hotel where the convention was in Heathrow. It was a "Moonlight/Angel/Veronica Mars" convention. I only registered because Alex O'Loughlin was one of the guests, but he cancelled a few weeks before it. But I deceided to go anyway and didn't regret it! Was really great! I like this small UK conventions! It was a very relaxed weekend. The hotel was nice. On Friday there wasn't much programme. Just the opening and a party later at the evening. So I had time to unpack a few things eat something and relax. But I was really tired so I decided to go to bed after the opening. Yeah, boring I know. I guess it would have been different if someone was there with me.

On Saturday I watched some episodes of "Castle" and "Moonlight" in the main hall till the guest talks started. Guests at this convention: Jordan Belfi, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, Jonathan Woodward, Keith Szarabajka and Neil Roberts who was the MC of this event. I don't wanna bore you with all the details so just want to say I LOVED Jordan Belfi!!! :romance-hearteyes: :romance-admire: He was so great! Such a nice guy and so damn hot! :D Jason was nice, too, and I liked him in "Moonlight" but I am not a fan. Francis was ok, but never even heard of him. In Germany they didn't show "Veronica Mars". I wasn't much interested in Keith but he was ok, too! I liked Neil Roberts and Jonathan was sometimes hilarious, but sometimes also a bit strange.
Went to the party in the evening. Danced a bit but didn't met anyone so it felt a bit strange. I'm a bit shy (believe it or not  ) so I can't easily talk to people I don't know. It's hard for me to start a conversation even more when there are groups sitting together. So nothing happend and I went to bed at midnight.

First I wanted to skip the sunday and move to my London town hotel and start to go shopping, but as I liked Jordan so much I wanted to get an autograph and watch his talk so I stayed almost the whole sunday!
The autograph session took a while. When I finally got mine from Jordan I wanted to tell him that it was really nice to meet him, which it really was! I so enjoyed his talks! But standing in front of him looking in his eyes, speaking English became an issue!  But after a while I got it out right. Don't know what he thought about me but his response was really sweet. A great guy!
Got autographs from the others, too. Jason talked a bit with me about where I was from and about London, which was nice of him, but well, not a fan of him. After it I had to leave to move into my other hotel, because it was already a bit late. So I skiped the closing.

On Monday I got up early because I wanted to get in the play "A Doll's House"! Christopher Eccleston was in it and I so much wanted to see him live on stage. It was sold out so quickly. Gillian Anderson was in it, too. So I queued for the day tickets at 7.30 am! 3 hours! Crazy - well a bit I guess! But I made it! The play was a bit boring but Christopher was great! Unfortunately he wasn't on stage so often. Gillian, well I saw her before in a play and I think she is just not a theatre actress. Loved her in X-Files but not live on stage. Sorry! Don't hate me! I tried to get an autograph of Christopher after the play but they went straight home without giving autographs - left through a secret exit.

On Tuesday I had a ticket for "Hamlet". Was lucky to get one in the stalls 6th row! Had a great look at Jude Law! The play was much darker then David's "Hamlet". I must say I liked David's more. It was more modern, brighter and lively. But to see Jude Law live on stage was so great! He is such a great actor! And so hot!

On Wednesday I had a ticket for "The Cherry Orchard" with Ethan Hawke. The play was nice! Ethan was great and the rest of the cast, too! And he is such a nice guy! So great! I went to my hotel with a big smile! Dakin Matthews was in it, too. He was in "Gilmore Girls". Played the 'Headmaster Charleston'.

The rest of the time I went shopping and relaxed. A really great vacation. On Thursday I went back home with a smile on my face!

So, this was "Simone's London Adventure June 2009". Hope there will be a lot more of such great adventures! Two a bit sad things: That I haven't met anyone to spent the convention with and that I haven't got an autograph of Christopher. But all the rest more then compensated that and I will always think back to this vacation with a smile!!! :D

Hope you enjoyed reading this and that I didn't bore you with it! If you wanna know more about something just ask!

Hope to see you all, soon! :)
Simone.

Well good morning to you all from sunny New Zealand - well it is sunny today anyway. Last night is was thundering rain and I spent the afternoon watching season two of Bones - just working my way through the series as you do! My name is Shona. I work for the local government doing community development/ building resilience and risk management. I am a volunteer in the local Incident Response Unit (search and rescue stuff), working on getting certified as a EM Responder (Emergency Medical). I love the theatre and have done some acting and some stage management. Both are lots of fun, but I think I like being backstage most...depends on the production really.
What else - I enjoy pottering about in my garden and am trying to learn about using herbs more in my home. One day I will have a great herb garden that I can use for cooking (LOVE cooking), medicine and home cleaning etc...
I do a lot of craft type stuff. I do yoga, swim and do gym classes. I read vocariously! I am always running out of books - thank god for libararies!
Well, that is probably enough about me for now.

I am on this site coz I have enjoyed Bones, and when surfing the net I found TJ's short film "Validation" and was really impressed.

Bye for now

Hello to Shona! :text-welcomewave: Your life sounds like a lot of fun! I share some of your hobbies (yoga, cooking/baking, reading, theatre), and I think you'll find most people here have some creative interest or another, be it singing, acting, writing, or doing some sort of art or craft. It's a talented bunch, and I think TJ inspires us with his broad range of interests and talents as well. Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself here. Join in on any of the conversational threads, if you are so moved. :D

Simone, it sounds like you've been having a terrific time, seeing some great shows! Sounds like you've met some really kind actors as well, which is always cool to hear (it seems you never know what a person is really like until you meet them face-to-face). I'm glad you're having fun! Tell us more, tell us more!

I want to thank anyone who spends part of their day creating [& sharing their experience]. I don't care if it's a book, a film, a painting, a dance, a piece of theater, a piece of music… I think this world would be unlivable without art. ~ S. Soderbergh

Sounds really great Simone. Glad you had a great time! I was in London twice, but that was a lifetime ago. Didn't see a play or a musical then. Really must think about going to London again.

I also heard that Jordan was so great at the convention. He even came to the party on sunday night. Glad to hear that Jason (I know you'r e not a fan :) ) was nice too and that you could talk to him. I am not a big fan of him either (haven't seen Veronica Mars), but I think he was great as Joseph in Moonlight. I wished I were able to go too. Would have loved to get an autograph from both of them. I heard there will be another one in March, but I think no guests are announced yet. I myself can't go anyway, we aren't allowed to get holidays in March, because of the annual accounts (Urlaubssperre)!

Your experience with Ethan Hawke sounds great too. He really seems to be very nice saying such lovely things.

So all in all you had a great time withe the convention, the theate and the shopping. I think I would go for DVDs (and clothes maybe).

Thanks for your report! I loved reading it! And if you have something to add... wouldn't mind to hear more.

@ Shona - hello, it's nice to read from you.

Hi Martina and Sherry! Glad you enjoyed reading about my vacation. Is there anything particular you would like to know more about? Will think about if there is more to tell.
Martina, I will go through the convention programme, again. Maybe there is more I can tell you. Will send you a pm then. But maybe you've already read a lot from it?! Oh, and I've already registered for the March-event. Still hope that Alex will be there then. :handgestures-fingerscrossed: Don't know if I only go for the weekend or stay a few days. Depends on if I get a few free days and if I have the money for it then.

Hi Shona! :text-welcomeconfetti: to the site! Hope you like it here.

See you all later!
Simone. :banana-linedance:
